Developing Cultural Sensitivity

This workshop provides participants the opportunity to explore and understand that individuals from different countries and cultures may need to be approached differently in order to maximize their satisfaction with their guest experience. It also explores how people with different prior experience (for example someone traveling in Indonesia for the first time vs. a repeat visitor) may have very different needs. Participants then practice various, culturally appropriate interactions through role play.

Outcomes – Participants will be able to:

  • list some of the different needs of individuals from different cultures in terms of things such as eye contact, tone of voice, physical distance, physical contact, etc.;
  • identify the ways that prior experience impacts a guests needs and comfort; and
  • demonstrate various, culturally appropriate interactions.
