(Also known as – Rebels with a Cause: TSM Psychodrama & Adolescents)
Do you love working with young people? Would you like to enhance your ability to develop positive connections with adolescents? Would you like to learn new techniques to enhance your role as a teacher, counselor, and/or facilitator working with individuals and groups? If so, this workshop is for you.
These three, full days of training (9am to 5pm each day) explore the theory, philosophy, and practice of utilizing action techniques (i.e. psychodrama, sociodrama, and drama therapy) with adolescent individuals and groups. Participate in the creation of a spontaneous and playful environment in which learning is cooperative and celebratory. Space is limited so pre-registration is essential.
Day 1: A Theoretical and Developmental Perspective
Participants will explore, in action:
- Addressing developmental needs of adolescents individually and in action-focused groups.
- The unique working of the Adolescent Brain.
- Elements that contribute to an adolescent’s feeling of safety and willingness to engage.
Day 2: Action Strategies to Support Group (and Group Members’) Development
Participants will explore, in action:
- Therapeutic and educational challenges at various stages of individual and group development.
- Facilitation of activities that support adolescent development and group cohesion.
- Use of the Therapeutic Spiral Model (TSM™) as a template for healthy adolescent development.
Day 3: Becoming a Stronger and More Successful Youth Worker
Participants will explore, in action:
- Personal triggers that re-stimulate adolescent issues.
- Strategies for containing this re-stimulation appropriately and in service of the work.
- Incorporating learning from this training into their own work/professional settings.

Psychodrama hours may be used toward certification by the American Board of Examiners, the Korean Psychodrama Association, The North American Drama Therapy Association, Motivational Arts Unlimited, and Therapeutic Spiral International. (Check with your local certifying or professional development board to see if they accept these hours as well.)
